In the spheroidal graphite cast iron with carbon equivalent equal to 4.4%---4.9%, flake specimens are poured at different temperatures. The specimen size is 200 mm x 16 mm (length and width), and the specimen thickness is 1 mm and 1.5 mm. The data shows that the relative mobility of each group of molten iron, carbon equivalent, and pouring temperature have relatively large changes in the influence of molten iron
When the pouring temperature is in the range of 1375-1510 degrees Celsius, the flow distance of molten iron (reflecting relative fluidity) increases with the increase of carbon equivalent or pouring temperature. The flow distance of molten iron with carbon equivalent equal to 4.9% in the range of 1400---1475 degrees Celsius is not less than 200 mm, while the flow distance of molten iron with carbon equivalent equal to 4.5% in the similar temperature range is reduced to 100---150 mm.
The xinyuanzhu group has experimented with casting a plate-shaped casting with a thickness of 3 mm and a thickness of 250 mm (width) by 100 mm (height) using a down-casting method for molten iron fluidity test. The pouring temperature is 1370---1420 degrees Celsius. The result is that all castings poured above 1390 degrees Celsius are fully filled. No defects such as lack of meat or cold partition were found.
In addition to the influence of the chemical composition of the casting and the pouring temperature, factors such as the size of the sand and the compaction of the sand, the cavity coating, the size of the pouring system, and the cavity exhaust also affect the flow of molten iron in the cavity.
Molding sand and sand mold compactness affect the friction of molten iron and narrow cavity. The finer sand, high compactness of the sand mold, and coating on the surface of the mold wall can reduce the friction resistance and make the molten iron flow more smoothly. The gating system should maintain a certain pressure and flow rate when molten iron enters the thin-walled cavity.
The inner gate should be as close as possible to the thin-walled part. If molten iron is poured directly into the cavity, it is very beneficial to fill the thin-walled cavity. When molten iron fills the cavity, the gas in the cavity must be smoothly discharged in time to avoid casting defects such as cold barriers and insufficient pouring.
